For this week’s Client Spotlight, we had the pleasure of chatting with Tom and Tommy who told us a little bit about Tom Martin & Son, LLC based in Johns Island, SC.
Tom and Tommy Martin share more than just a name and a father-son bond; they share a business and a passion for constructing quality custom homes in the lowcountry. Tom began his career in the building industry in the mid-1980s, and his son, Tommy, developed his own skills through years of observing and mimicking his father’s craftsmanship.
In 2004, the duo established Tom Martin and Son General Contracting. Our homes have a lot of extra touches and amenities that make them stand out from the rest. We believe the process of designing and building a one of a kind home should be fun, exciting, and enjoyable. We hope to accomplish this for our clients by keeping them informed, thereby minimizing the unknowns.
On this particular project, the owners wanted the house to emulate Old Charleston, Beaufort, and Rockville. The reclaimed wood fit in perfectly with the brickwork and other touches that created this feel. The client really loved the idea of incorporating reclaimed wood as a way to give new life/purpose to this beautiful resource. It also lends a very warm and inviting feel to the atmosphere of their home. We love working with old wood and really enjoy the character it adds to a home, as demonstrated on both of these projects.
We had a great experience working with Reclaimed DesignWorks. We really appreciated their professionalism, as well as the obvious pride and care they put in to their business and the top quality products they provide.
One surprising fact about our company, which sets us apart from many of our competitors, is that we do all of our carpentry work in-house. Our team of skilled craftsman (7 guys) have a combined total of over 190 years building experience!

Thanks again to Tom and his son for chatting with us!
