Bourbon is the most popular American Whiskey and our Prohibition Plank captures the true essence of this iconic product. Part of what makes Bourbon special is that each batch must be aged in new, charred oak barrels, while Scotch and other Whiskey’s must be aged in oak barrels but they need not be new or charred. Because these barrels can be used only once, there is an opportunity to repurpose and reclaim this material for use in construction and design. Attributes of Prohibition Plank
Prohibition Plank is a blend of different parts of Bourbon barrels and features varying colors from dark to light. In general you can expect approximately 40% of the material to come from the inside of the barrel and it will be blackened and charred (can be lightened up after sanding), 40% of the material will come from the outside staves of the barrel which will have iron stains left on them from the metal bands that held the barrel together and 20% of the material will come from the barrel heads which are often covered in stamps, markings, charring and even writing from the distillery and distillers themselves.
