An upscale or informal motif is no challenge for Douglas Fir flooring. Valued for its versatility and characterized by vertical or straight grains with beautiful red-brown tones, this wood can be used for everything from structural timbers to furniture making. Once ideal for mission-style homes due to its uniform texture and durability, it also played a key element in turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts (Craftsman) homes. Reclaimed from old factories and warehouses, Douglas Fir had a former life as a structural beam, timber or joist.
Attributes of Reclaimed Douglas Fir Flooring
Primarily straight grained, this wood may also contain wavy or spiral grains. Douglas Fir features prominent growth rings and slightly lighter sapwood while proudly displaying its reddish-brown pine color. Virgin-forest Douglas fir can have very tight growth rings.
